Man Utd Handed Shock Chance to Sign 175-Goal Striker in Stunning Late Transfer Twist

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United have been handed another experienced option in attack, with Alexander Sorloth emerging as a potential late addition before the transfer window closes.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that intermediaries have offered the Atletico Madrid striker to United, who are continuing to look at different forwards before Tuesday’s deadline.

The move would be an interesting one for Michael Carrick’s side. United are not simply searching for another attacker to add numbers to the squad. Their priority is believed to be finding a proper central striker who can provide a different option alongside Benjamin Sesko.

Sorloth fits that description.

The 30-year-old already knows English football from his time with Crystal Palace, while his experience at the highest level in Spain gives him another major advantage. He is also understood to be open to leaving Atletico this summer and would consider a return to the Premier League.

Man Utd offered Sorloth as striker search continues

United’s search for another forward has become more important following Joshua Zirkzee’s departure for Fiorentina.

That has left Carrick’s squad needing another central option, but the club do not appear willing to sign a player simply for the sake of it. The thinking is that any new arrival must bring something different to Sesko and give the manager another way of attacking games.

Sorloth could do exactly that.

The Norway international is a powerful striker who can occupy defenders, compete for crosses and provide a physical presence in the final third. Those qualities could be useful in Premier League football, particularly against teams that defend deep and make it difficult for United to find space.

His record also gives the move some weight. Sorloth has scored 175 goals in 475 senior appearances during his career, showing that he has been a regular goalscorer across several leagues.

His previous spell in England was not the most successful part of his career, but a lot has changed since then. He has developed into a more experienced forward and has impressed during his time in Spain.

For United, that experience could be valuable.

The club are already building around a younger attacking option in Sesko, so bringing in an older striker could provide a different balance. Sorloth would not necessarily need to become the undisputed first choice. Instead, he could compete for minutes and give Carrick another tactical weapon.

Atletico Madrid could allow Sorloth to leave

There is one major obstacle standing in the way of the deal.

Atletico are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for Sorloth, but they do not want to leave themselves short in attack.

Julian Alvarez remains part of their plans, meaning the Spanish side are looking for another striker before allowing Sorloth to depart. Several names are being considered as Atletico look for a solution.

Gabriel Jesus is one option being discussed, while former Lille forward Jonathan David has also been linked with a possible move.

Juventus are exploring a potential deal involving David, with Sorloth and Nico Gonzalez potentially featuring in an exchange, although those discussions are becoming increasingly difficult.

Interestingly, David has also been offered to Manchester United.

That means United have more than one experienced option being presented to them as the deadline approaches.

The club has also looked at other possibilities. Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr have been discussed, while younger targets such as Igor Matanovic, Fisnik Asllani and Conrad Harder have also been considered.

The situation makes Sorloth particularly interesting because he offers something different from some of the younger names on the list.

At 30, he would arrive with years of senior football behind him. He has played in different leagues, understands the demands of international football, and already has Premier League experience.

There is also an intriguing Manchester connection.

Sorloth is a close friend of Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, meaning the possibility of the pair being based in the same city would add an unusual subplot to the transfer.

However, that should not be the reason United consider the deal. The real question is whether Sorloth gives Carrick the qualities his attack currently lacks.

If United believe they need a strong central striker who can complement Sesko, compete physically with Premier League defenders and provide experience in important matches, then the Atletico forward is a logical option.

But the club is also expected to be careful.

United do not want to make a rushed signing simply because the deadline is approaching. If the right player cannot be found, there is a possibility they decide against adding another striker altogether.

That leaves Sorloth’s situation one to watch closely.

The player is open to a Premier League return, Atletico are willing to consider his departure if they find a replacement, and United are actively assessing forward options.

Everything now depends on whether the Red Devils decide the experienced Norwegian is the right fit for Carrick’s plans.
