Fabrizio Romano Gives Man Utd Fans Huge Transfer Boost as Two More Signings Move Closer

Manchester United are expected to make at least two more moves before the summer transfer window closes, with Fabrizio Romano providing a major update on the club’s plans.

The Red Devils have already made significant changes to their squad this summer, particularly in midfield, but manager Michael Carrick does not appear ready to stop there.

United have reportedly made a new left-back one of their biggest remaining priorities, while another striker could also arrive before the deadline if Joshua Zirkzee completes his proposed move to Fiorentina.

Romano has now suggested that a new left-back is almost certain to arrive at Old Trafford, while a striker remains a strong possibility.

That could make the final days of the transfer window very busy for United.

United’s midfield rebuild has been one of the main stories of their summer.

The club have brought in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, giving Carrick far more options in the centre of the pitch.

However, the manager still wants greater depth on the left side of his defence.

Luke Shaw remains an important option for United, but there have been concerns over his availability and long-term fitness. Patrick Dorgu is also expected to have a more attacking role on the left, rather than being used as a traditional defensive left-back.

As a result, United have continued looking for another player in that position.

Two names have been strongly linked with the club throughout the summer: Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde.

Hall would be an attractive option because of his Premier League experience, but Newcastle are reportedly unwilling to sell him after already losing several important players.

The Magpies have seen Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes leave, making another major departure difficult for the club to accept. That could push United towards Balde.

Barcelona, however, would need to reduce their demands for a deal to become realistic. United currently consider the Spanish club’s asking price too high.

Romano’s latest comments nevertheless suggest that United will find a solution, with the Italian journalist saying a new left-back is “almost guaranteed” to arrive.

The timing is also important. United are due to host Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday after suffering a shock opening-day defeat to Hull City.

The club will want a positive response on the pitch, but their recruitment work is continuing away from the action.

United could also sign another striker

The second major position United could address is up front. Their plans could depend heavily on what happens with Joshua Zirkzee.

Fiorentina have reportedly made an official bid for the Netherlands international, and his departure would create room for another forward.

United are already looking at several possibilities. One player discussed internally is Igor Matanovic, a giant Bundesliga striker who could provide another physical option for Carrick.

However, United may prefer a more experienced forward who can immediately compete alongside Benjamin Sesko. One name that has emerged is Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The Crystal Palace striker has established himself as a proven Premier League goalscorer and was reportedly offered to United. His experience in English football would make him an obvious option if the club wants someone capable of making an immediate impact.

The problem is the potential cost.

Nottingham Forest have already had a bid worth up to £25m rejected for Mateta. With the striker having less than 12 months remaining on his Palace contract, United may not want to pay significantly more than that.

Another option is Alexander Sorloth.

The Atletico Madrid striker has also reportedly been offered to United. The Norway international previously struggled during his spell at Crystal Palace, but his career has developed considerably since leaving England in 2020.

Both Mateta and Sorloth offer something United could badly need: a different physical presence alongside Sesko.

Sesko provides pace, movement and a threat in behind, but during a long season United will need another way to attack when opponents sit deep or when the Slovenian needs a rest.

That becomes even more important if United are competing in the Champions League, where squad depth will be tested by a heavy fixture schedule.

Sorloth’s career record also makes him an interesting option. He has become a much more reliable goalscorer since his difficult period at Palace, while his physical profile would give Carrick a clear alternative in attack.

For United, though, the priority should not simply be signing another striker for the sake of it.

The club needs a forward who genuinely improves their options and can provide a different threat from Sesko. That is why the next few days could be important.

Romano’s update suggests United are highly likely to complete a left-back signing, while the striker situation will depend partly on Zirkzee’s future.

With the deadline fast approaching, United could therefore be heading towards two more additions before the window closes.

The midfield has already been rebuilt. Now Carrick appears determined to fix the remaining weaknesses in his squad, with the left-back position looking like the next piece of the puzzle and a new striker potentially following soon after.
