Manchester United have been handed a clear update on the latest ownership rumours after Emirati billionaire Hussain Sajwani was linked with a possible move for a stake in the club.
Sajwani’s name has been going around social media in recent days, with claims that the businessman could be ready to invest in Manchester United if the Glazer family decide to sell some or all of their remaining shares.
However, those claims have now been strongly challenged.
According to Sportico journalist Łukasz Bączek, the Sajwani family has no plans to buy a football club or take a stake in one, including Manchester United. His comments have put a major question mark over the speculation which had been spreading on X.
Sajwani is one of the biggest businessmen in the United Arab Emirates and is best known as the founder of DAMAC Properties. His huge financial power naturally made him a name that attracted attention when rumours of possible new investment at Old Trafford started to appear.
But at this stage, there is no confirmed Sajwani investment in Manchester United.
Hussain Sajwani Sends Clear Message Over Manchester United Links
The latest development came after several social-media posts suggested that Sajwani could be interested in buying shares from the Glazer family.
The rumours became particularly interesting because the Glazers remain Manchester United’s majority voting shareholders, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS holds a significant minority position. Manchester United’s own investor information states that, as of December 2025, entities controlled by the Glazer family held around 67.91% of the club’s voting power, while INEOS held around 28.95%.
That ownership structure means any serious move for a major part of the club would be a huge financial operation.
There has also been continued interest around the future of the Glazer family’s involvement at United, which is one reason why possible investors are regularly linked with the club.
Sajwani’s name was one of those to emerge this time.
However, Bączek has now claimed that the story is not genuine.
The Sportico journalist responded to the rumours on X on September 22, saying that it was another fake news story. He added that he had previously reported that the Sajwani family were not interested in purchasing a football club or acquiring a stake in one, specifically mentioning Manchester United.
That means United supporters should not treat the recent social-media claims as evidence that Sajwani is preparing a bid.

What This Means For Manchester United’s Ownership
The latest report does not change Manchester United’s existing ownership structure.
The Glazer family remains the largest voting shareholder group, while INEOS has a major minority position. Manchester United’s official information confirms that the Glazers and INEOS remain the two significant shareholders, with the Glazers holding the larger voting position.

INEOS also has an important role in the running of the football club. Manchester United’s corporate information lists INEOS figures on the club’s board, while CEO Omar Berrada oversees the club’s business and football operations.
Because of that structure, any future change in ownership would need to be carefully considered, especially if one party attempted to purchase a major part of the Glazers’ position.
For now, though, Sajwani does not appear to be that buyer.
His wealth explains why his name created plenty of attention when the rumours started. Forbes was cited as valuing his fortune at $15.3 billion in March 2026, making him financially capable of being involved in a major sporting investment.
But financial ability and actual interest are two very different things.
The latest information points towards the second part being missing.
Manchester United fans have seen plenty of takeover talk over the years, particularly since the club’s ownership review and the eventual INEOS investment. That makes it important to separate confirmed developments from claims made on social media.
At present, the Sajwani story remains just that — a rumour which has been publicly disputed by a journalist covering the business of sport.
The Glazers’ future involvement at Manchester United can still be discussed separately, and there may continue to be speculation about potential investors if shares become available.
But based on the latest report, Hussain Sajwani should not be viewed as a confirmed Manchester United investor or potential buyer at this stage.
