Man Utd Step Up Talks for £69M Star in Double Deal Plan with Ederson as Winger Battle Intensifies

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United are continuing their summer rebuild under Michael Carrick, and fresh transfer reports suggest the club is not stopping at one big midfield signing.

After a strong end to the season with a 3-0 win over Brighton, United are now turning full focus to recruitment.

One deal already moving forward is for Atalanta midfielder Éderson, but reports now suggest he could be joined by another exciting South American talent.

That player is William Gomes, the highly rated Porto winger, who is now firmly on United’s radar.

United is looking at a double South American signing

According to reports, Manchester United have already made initial contact regarding a move for Gomes, who has a release clause worth around €80m (£69m).

That means Porto has little control over whether a club meets the price.

United are said to be monitoring the situation closely, alongside other top clubs including Arsenal.

Early talks have already taken place, which suggests this is not just a simple scouting interest anymore.

The idea inside Old Trafford is that United want more pace, creativity, and goal threat from wide areas, especially after mixed performances from current attacking options.

Gomes, just 20 years old, has been one of the breakout talents in Portugal this season. He has impressed with his direct running, ability to score goals, and sharp movement in the final third.

Even though he is still young, his numbers show a player already producing at a high level in a European league.

Why Gomes is being compared internally at United

One of the biggest talking points from United’s current squad is the form of Amad Diallo.

The winger showed flashes of quality during the season, including a strong assist in the final game against Brighton, but consistency has been an issue.

Amad has struggled at times to deliver regular goals and assists from open play this season, especially compared to last year when he was more productive in a different tactical role.

Because of this, United are believed to be considering whether more competition is needed on the right side of attack.

Gomes, who mainly plays off the right flank, is seen as a player who could offer more end product and direct attacking threat.

His style is very aggressive, always looking to take defenders on and get into scoring positions.

This is where the concern comes in for Amad. If Gomes arrives, he would not just be a squad option; he could arrive as a serious challenger for a starting place.

Strong numbers make Gomes an attractive option

Gomes has impressed in Portugal with a strong return of goals and assists, despite not always being a regular starter.

His efficiency in front of the goal has stood out, and he has shown he can perform even with limited minutes.

Scouts have also highlighted his creativity, with multiple chances created throughout the season and strong decision-making in the final third.

For United, that combination of youth, potential, and output makes him an appealing long-term investment.

What happens next?

At this stage, no final agreement has been reached, but talks are ongoing, and interest is serious.

With Éderson already close to joining, United could be planning a double South American addition to refresh their midfield and attack options.

If both deals go through, it could mark a major shift in how Carrick’s side looks next season, and it could also place extra pressure on players like Amad Diallo to step up quickly.

For now, William Gomes remains one of the most closely watched names in Manchester United’s summer transfer plans.
