Patrick Dorgu returns to United after Denmark injury; Bruno Fernandes update

by Alex Matthews

Patrick Dorgu is returning to Manchester United after an injury cut short his Denmark appearance, while Portugal are hopeful Bruno Fernandes will be fit to face Denmark on Thursday. The two updates are at different stages: Dorgu has left international duty, but United have not yet published a diagnosis or a club return date for him.

Dorgu returns to United for assessment

Dorgu started Denmark’s 2-0 win over Wales on Sunday but came off after about half an hour. Denmark coach Brian Riemer told TV2 that the 21-year-old was injured and needed to go home, with another player to be called up. United’s official fitness update says he is now set to return to the club and will not be involved in Denmark’s games against Portugal and Wales later in this international window.

The cause and severity remain unclear. A return to Manchester for assessment does not, on its own, establish how long Dorgu will be unavailable. United say he has played a part in six of their seven matches this season, so the next club medical update will matter more than any early timetable circulating online.

Fernandes could return for Portugal

Fernandes missed Portugal’s 2-1 win in Norway on Sunday. Head coach Jorge Jesus said before that game that the United captain had played with a problem in the earlier 1-0 win over Wales and he did not want to risk him in Oslo. Jesus said he had spoken with Fernandes and hoped the midfielder would be available for Thursday’s Nations League fixture in Denmark, according to United’s update.

That is a hopeful plan, not a clearance to play. Portugal’s team announcement and any later United medical comment will determine what the rest means for his return to club football. Diogo Dalot was unused against Norway and could also feature against Denmark, United added.

What comes next

For United, the immediate questions are what the club’s assessment finds on Dorgu and whether Fernandes is ready to take part on Thursday. Dorgu’s withdrawal is confirmed; his recovery window is not. Fernandes remains with Portugal, with his availability still framed as a hope rather than a guarantee. Both stories are worth tracking without turning an international-break fitness update into a premature club selection verdict.
