Manchester United’s hopes of signing Lille wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi are now under serious pressure, with Arsenal stepping ahead in the race for one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 18-year-old has quickly become a key player for Lille despite his age, and his rise in Ligue 1 has caught the attention of almost every major club in Europe, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, PSG, and Real Madrid.
Bouaddi is already a key player at Lille
Even though he is still only 18, Bouaddi has already made a huge impact at the senior level.
He has played over 40 games in all competitions this season, becoming a regular starter in the Lille midfield.
Born in France but choosing to represent Morocco, Bouaddi is also set to feature in the upcoming World Cup, where he will join the Atlas Lions on the international stage.
Standing around 6’1”, he has shown he is physically ready for top-level football, while also being praised for his calm passing, energy, and intelligence in midfield.
Coaches at Lille reportedly see him as one of the most complete young midfielders in Europe.
Manchester United’s interest grows, but it faces a problem
Manchester United have been following Bouaddi for some time and view him as part of their long-term rebuild in midfield.
Scouts have watched him regularly, and internal reports at Old Trafford are said to be very positive.
United are preparing for changes in midfield, with players like Casemiro nearing the end of his contract and Manuel Ugarte also facing an uncertain future.
Because of this, the club is actively looking for younger, long-term solutions.
Bouaddi was seen as a strong option to partner with Kobbie Mainoo in the future, especially given his ability to play both defensively and in more advanced roles.
However, United now faces a major setback.
Arsenal move first in transfer race
Arsenal have taken the lead in the transfer battle after reportedly making a strong approach for the player.
The Gunners are said to have already placed a bid in the region of £52m, although it was rejected by Lille.
Despite the rejection, Arsenal are still considered the front-runners, with Mikel Arteta’s side making Bouaddi one of their top priorities for the summer.
Fresh from winning major silverware and continuing their strong Premier League form, Arsenal are now trying to strengthen their squad even further, and Bouaddi is seen as a long-term midfield project.
Lille demands a huge fee as competition grows
Lille are in no rush to sell and are holding firm on their valuation. Reports suggest they want closer to £60m for the teenager, especially with his value expected to rise further after the World Cup.
The French club is well known for developing and selling top talent, and they believe Bouaddi could spark a bidding war between Europe’s biggest clubs.
Liverpool, Chelsea, PSG, and Real Madrid are also keeping a close eye on the situation, which makes the transfer race even more competitive.
At this stage, Manchester United are still interested, but Arsenal’s early move has put them in control of the situation.
Unless United decides to go big financially, they risk losing another top young talent to a direct rival.
Bouaddi’s performances at Lille and his upcoming World Cup involvement could push his value even higher, meaning this transfer battle is far from finished.
For now, Arsenal are leading the race, and Manchester United may need a quick response if they want any chance of signing one of Europe’s brightest midfield prospects.
