Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park named in England squad

by Alex Matthews

Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park have been named in England’s squad for the two-legged World Cup qualifying play-off against Greece. Manchester United confirmed the call-ups in their official announcement on 29 September.

Maya Le Tissier and Park will join Sarina Wiegman’s group for the October international window. England travel to Crete for the first leg on 9 October before hosting Greece at Leicester’s King Power Stadium on 13 October.

Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park return to England duty

Maya Le Tissier has 14 senior England caps, according to the club’s announcement. She was part of the squad that won the Women’s European Championship in 2025.

Meanwhile, Park also belonged to that title-winning group before joining United later in the same summer. The club lists her record at 26 England caps and five goals. Her most recent international goals were a brace against Ukraine in a 6-1 Nations League win in March.

However, selection for the squad does not confirm a starting place for Maya Le Tissier in either Greece match. Wiegman will decide the line-ups nearer each game. The call-ups are the confirmed development, rather than a forecast of minutes for the two United players.

A two-legged route towards the 2027 World Cup

The Lionesses’ first match takes them to the Pankritio Stadium in Crete. Then the return leg brings the tie back to England four days later.

For Maya Le Tissier and the rest of the squad, United’s report says a victory across the two games would take England into the next round of the play-offs. Therefore, this tie is a step towards qualification, not a match that on its own guarantees a place at the 2027 tournament in Brazil.

In addition, Manchester City’s official squad announcement confirms both Le Tissier and Park in the full England list. That report describes the Greece tie as a play-off semi-final.

United Women have club games first

Before the players leave for international duty, United face Durham in the Subway Players Cup on 30 September. Maya Le Tissier and her team-mates have their next Women’s Super League assignment is against Liverpool on Saturday 3 October, according to the club.

As a result, the pair still have club commitments ahead of the England window. This report does not claim an injury update, confirm either player’s involvement against Durham or Liverpool, or provide ticket availability.

For now, the confirmed news is that Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park are back in England’s squad. United’s captain and midfielder will be part of the group preparing for the next stage of the Lionesses’ World Cup qualifying campaign.
