Manchester United Make Final Call on Liam Delap as Chelsea Striker Offered to Red Devils

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United are still looking to add a new striker before the transfer window closes, but it looks like Liam Delap will not be the player arriving at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils had shown interest in the young forward in the past, and his name has appeared in transfer rumours once again after his difficult spell at Chelsea.

However, fresh reports suggest United have now made their position clear and are focusing on other attacking targets instead.

With the new Premier League season getting closer, Manchester United remain active in the market as they try to strengthen one of the most important areas of the squad.

Manchester United decide against Liam Delap move

Liam Delap was seen as one of England’s brightest young strikers after his impressive rise through the Manchester City academy and his performances before joining Chelsea.

Many expected him to develop into a reliable Premier League goalscorer, but things did not go as planned during his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Injuries slowed his progress, while regular starts were difficult to come by. As a result, Delap was unable to build momentum or make the impact many supporters expected.

With Chelsea now looking to reshape their squad, the striker has become available for a move, and several Premier League clubs have been informed about his situation.

Manchester United were among the clubs contacted because they had admired Delap before his move to Chelsea.

Despite that previous interest, the Red Devils have reportedly decided not to enter the race this time around.

That decision suggests the club believe there are stronger options available as they continue searching for a new number nine.

United continue search for a proven goalscorer

Although Delap is no longer thought to be a target, Manchester United’s need for another striker has not changed.

The club want more goals in the squad after struggling for consistency in front of goal last season.

While there are attacking players already available, United appear keen to bring in someone who can lead the line regularly.

Some members of the current squad can play as a striker, but not all of them are natural centre-forwards. Others continue to face uncertainty over their futures, making another signing an important part of the club’s plans.

Finding a reliable goalscorer remains one of the biggest priorities before the transfer window comes to an end.

Alternative names remain on Manchester United’s shortlist

With Delap seemingly out of the picture, attention has turned towards other experienced forwards.

Reports continue to link Manchester United with Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, who is currently available after becoming a free agent.

His experience at the highest level could make him an attractive option for a club looking for an immediate impact.

Another player believed to be admired is Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.

Watkins has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent forwards over the past few seasons. His movement, work rate and finishing have earned praise across English football.

However, completing a deal for the England international may prove difficult. Aston Villa value him highly, and convincing them to sell one of their key players would likely require a significant offer.

That could make negotiations far more complicated than signing a free agent.

Chelsea forward expected to attract interest elsewhere

Even though Manchester United have stepped away, Liam Delap is unlikely to be short of options.

Premier League clubs continue to monitor his situation, and many will believe the striker still has plenty of potential despite a disappointing campaign.

At 23 years of age, Delap has time to rebuild his career and prove he can become the striker many expected him to be.

Sometimes a fresh start is exactly what a young player needs, especially after a difficult season with limited opportunities.

For that reason, interest in the forward is expected to remain strong throughout the remainder of the transfer window.

United staying patient in the market

Manchester United’s decision not to pursue Liam Delap shows they are being selective with their transfer business rather than rushing into a deal.

The club appear determined to find a striker who fits both the manager’s plans and the team’s long-term ambitions.

Whether that player turns out to be Dusan Vlahovic, Ollie Watkins or another target entirely remains to be seen.

For now, one thing is becoming clear. While Delap’s future may lie away from Chelsea, Old Trafford does not currently look like his next destination as Manchester United continue to explore other options before the window closes.
