Noussair Mazraoui injury: United report apparent issue after Morocco win

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United have reported that Noussair Mazraoui was substituted with an apparent injury during Morocco’s 2-0 win over Lesotho. The defender came off in the 69th minute, with Achraf Hakimi replacing him.

The club’s report, published on 30 September, gives the immediate match update but no diagnosis or recovery timetable. United supporters should therefore distinguish a confirmed substitution from a confirmed period on the sidelines.

Noussair Mazraoui came off against Lesotho

Morocco won the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier through goals from Brahim Diaz and Azzedine Ounahi. United’s account says Mazraoui had played well before he was replaced, and describes the issue as an apparent injury rather than naming a specific problem.

The Standard reported that he received treatment after a challenge and collision near the touchline. Its report also said the severity remained to be established. That is reason for concern, but it is not a medical assessment from the club.

No recovery timetable in United’s report

The available club update does not say how long Mazraoui might be out, whether he will return early from international duty or whether he will miss United’s next match. None of those outcomes should be treated as confirmed on the strength of the substitution alone.

A further medical update from United or Morocco would be needed to turn the immediate match report into a reliable availability forecast. For now, the clear facts are the apparent injury, the 69th-minute change and the absence of a diagnosis in United’s account.

Another fitness concern during the international break

United have already had other players’ fitness in focus during this international window. Our earlier report on Patrick Dorgu’s return and the Bruno Fernandes update covers those separate situations. It does not establish the seriousness of Mazraoui’s issue.

United’s Morocco report also notes Bryan Mbeumo’s involvement in Cameroon’s 1-1 draw with Congo. Those international appearances are separate from the assessment of Mazraoui, and should not be turned into an injury-crisis count without checking each player’s current position.

The next useful development for supporters is a named medical finding or a clear club statement on availability. Until then, an exact return date would be speculation.
