United were chasing the game almost immediately at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Barrios’ early goal gave the hosts an advantage that Michael Carrick’s side could not overturn.
The club’s full-time update says United responded positively to conceding. Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes forced important saves from Jan Oblak as the visitors searched for an equaliser.

Oblak also denied Matheus Cunha in added time, stretching out a leg to stop United finding a consolation. The match ended 2-0 after six minutes of second-half stoppage time.
