The Terland Norway hat-trick: Elisabeth Terland scored three times as Norway beat Romania 6-0 to reach the final European play-off round for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
Her goals helped complete an 8-0 aggregate victory. Manchester United’s striker scored twice inside the opening 12 minutes before adding a second-half penalty at Ullevaal Stadion.
Terland Norway hat-trick settles Romania tie
The Terland Norway hat-trick began after Synne Jensen opened the scoring in the third minute. Terland then struck in the ninth and 12th minutes to put Norway firmly in control before the interval.
Her penalty in the 54th minute completed the treble. Marthine Ostenstad and Julie Blakstad added further goals as Norway finished the second leg with six unanswered strikes.
The result followed a 2-0 win in the first leg. Norway now face Wales in the next round, with qualification for the finals in Brazil still to be decided.
United players contribute to Wales victory
While the Terland Norway hat-trick led the scoring, there was also a productive night for United’s Welsh players. Mared Griffiths supplied an assist and was named Player of the Match in the 3-0 win against Albania in Llanelli, according to the club’s international round-up.
Scarlett Hill and Safia Middleton-Patel were part of the clean-sheet performance. Their next opponents will include club team-mate Terland as Wales take on Norway.

United’s report notes that winning the next play-off tie does not automatically guarantee every successful team direct entry to the World Cup. Of the eight European play-off winners, seven qualify directly and the lowest-ranked side enters the inter-confederation play-offs.
Terland Norway hat-trick leads strong international night
The Terland Norway hat-trick was one of several United contributions across Europe. Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park represented England in a 5-0 win over Greece. The 8-1 aggregate result set up a meeting with Ukraine.
Dominique Janssen captained the Netherlands as they completed an 11-0 aggregate victory against Hungary. Hanna Lundkvist scored in Sweden’s 10-goal win over Lithuania, with Anna Sandberg and Julia Zigiotti also involved.
The players now return to domestic preparations. United Women travel to newly promoted Charlton Athletic on Sunday.
