Carrick Man Utd reaction: Michael Carrick called the 1-1 draw at Leeds United “a bit of a fresh start”, even though the result left his side with their worst start to a season since 1986 and still without a Premier League win since August.

Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised on 51 minutes from close range after the visitors failed to clear a corner. United have seven points from seven league games and sit 13th. They travel to Como in the Champions League on Wednesday. For the full story of the game, read how the Elland Road draw unfolded.
Carrick: “a bit of a fresh start”
The Carrick Man Utd camp kept its feet on the ground. “We’re not getting too carried away because we haven’t won the game, but I think if you keep doing the right things for the right reasons, then you get what you deserve in the end,” he said, according to the Manchester Evening News. “I think that was a bit of a fresh start today, to be honest, with where we’re at, accepting it, and doing something about it.”
He also spoke about the mood in the squad. “Definitely shows that the boys are desperate to do well for each other as much as anything else, and how much they appreciate playing for this football club,” he said. He added that Leeds are a “tough game” that “can find you out pretty quickly”, and that “the boys stood up to it really well”.

Carrick Man Utd fresh start meets a worst start since 1986
The numbers are hard. ESPN reports that United have one win from seven games in all competitions, and the Manchester Evening News says they are without a win in six. Carrick accepted that. “We’re not accepting it as everything’s great by any stretch, so I’m realistic with that,” he said.
“I understand the situation doesn’t look great but I have no doubts we can go on a good run,” he told reporters, as quoted by ESPN.
On Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher took a kinder view. “In isolation, going to Leeds and performing how they did was a decent result,” he said. Sky also noted that United were outrun in parts of the game.
