Manchester United could be back in the transfer spotlight after reports claim the club has made a huge £86 million offer for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao.
The Portugal international is one of the hottest names in Europe right now, and United are ready to beat both Liverpool and Manchester City to his signature.
According to reports from Spain, INEOS, who now oversee United’s football structure, have accelerated plans to bring in the AC Milan star.
The club believes Leao could be the missing piece in their attacking setup under Ruben Amorim.
After spending around £230m last summer, United are still hungry for more quality. They already brought in Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Senne Lammens, which helped improve results in recent weeks.
The team has looked better, with back-to-back wins over Sunderland and Liverpool, but there’s still a long way to go before they can fight for the Premier League title.
Why United wants Leao
Rafael Leao, 25, has been in top form since returning from injury, scoring three goals in his last two Serie A games.
His pace, power, and direct attacking style have made him one of the most exciting wingers in Europe.
United’s scouts and staff see him as a “game-changer,” someone who can lift the team’s attack to another level. After parting ways with Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, and Jadon Sancho, there’s a clear gap on the left wing.
Leao could fill that space perfectly and give Amorim more firepower going forward.
Liverpool and Manchester City are also keeping close eyes on the Milan star, but United are said to be leading the race thanks to their aggressive offer and INEOS’s quick handling of the negotiations.
Contract clause and competition
Reports say Leao has a release clause in his AC Milan contract, though the full amount isn’t known. Milan could be open to selling if the right price comes in, especially with £86m already on the table.
However, Leao’s future will also depend on three main things, his current performance levels, Milan’s stance, and the player’s own desire.
If he finds the idea of joining Manchester United or playing in the Premier League attractive, the deal could move quickly.
United’s rebuild continues
Alongside chasing Leao, United are also planning for the future. The club has just completed the signing of 16-year-old goalkeeper Charlie Hardy from Derby County.
He’ll join the academy setup and will be eligible for a professional deal when he turns 17.
United are showing they’re serious about rebuilding from top to bottom, mixing young talents with world-class names like Leao.
If the Red Devils can pull off this massive deal, it could be one of the biggest statements yet under INEOS and Ruben Amorim’s new era at Old Trafford.
