Manchester United could be ready to make a big midfield move as reports from Germany say Stuttgart have now named their price for Angelo Stiller.
The 24-year-old has been on United’s shortlist for months, and Sky Sport Germany claim he’s still one of the club’s main targets.
United already improved their attack last summer, but now attention is turning to the heart of the team.
With Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte struggling to impress, Ruben Amorim wants a midfielder who can control games with calm passing and quick thinking and Stiller could be that man.
Stuttgart set €50m price for Stiller
According to reports, Stuttgart are asking for €50 million for Angelo Stiller.
His current deal runs until 2028, and it includes a €40 million release clause but Stuttgart can cancel that clause by paying €2 million.
This means any club wanting to sign him will likely have to meet the full €50m asking price. Along with United, Barcelona are also said to be interested in the midfielder.
United actually asked about Stiller last summer when they failed to sign Carlos Baleba, but no official offer was made.
Now, with the January window approaching, the club could return with serious intent.
Why Stiller fits the Amorim system
Stiller has been described as a “world-class distributor”, someone who keeps the ball moving and creates space with clever passing.
He’s not a hard tackler like Baleba or Wharton but more of a deep-lying playmaker, similar to what Michael Carrick used to be for United.
His record also speaks for itself. Across his career so far, Stiller has 54 assists, showing just how good he is at finding teammates in dangerous areas.
For Stuttgart, he’s made 92 appearances, scoring 6 goals and assisting 21 times.
Amorim’s current setup often uses Bruno Fernandes deeper in midfield, and while the captain has adapted well, many believe he needs a calm partner who can control the tempo, something Stiller could do perfectly.
What it means for United’s midfield rebuild
United’s midfield has been a problem this season. Casemiro has looked off the pace, and Ugarte has yet to prove he’s the long-term solution.
Amorim is said to be looking for a technical midfielder who can both defend and dictate play from deep.
If United do sign Stiller, it would mark another smart move under the club’s new structure, focusing on younger players with strong tactical awareness.
While some fans might prefer a more physical player, others see Stiller as a long-term piece of Amorim’s rebuild, someone who can turn defence into attack with one smart pass.
