Manchester United ended their long wait for back-to-back Premier League wins with a stunning 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
It was the perfect return to club football after the international break, as Rúben Amorim’s men produced one of their most determined performances of the season.
Fast start shocks Anfield
United came flying out of the gates, and it took less than two minutes for them to take the lead.
Bryan Mbeumo found space inside the box and fired past the Liverpool keeper with a clinical finish. The Anfield crowd was silenced as United took early control of the game.
Liverpool pushed hard for an equaliser, but United’s defence stood firm. Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt were rock-solid at the back, heading everything away and keeping the home side frustrated.
Amorim’s men even looked the more dangerous side on the counterattack, with Amad and Mason Mount linking up well down the wings.
United’s first-half control pays off
As the first half went on, United managed the tempo smartly. Bruno Fernandes, though sloppy at times, showed his class with two crucial passes that split Liverpool’s midfield.

His creativity kept United ticking, while Casemiro’s experience brought calmness in the middle of the park.
United went into half-time with a deserved lead, but everyone knew Liverpool would come flying out in the second half.
Liverpool hit back but United show heart
The second half began with Liverpool piling on the pressure. After several close calls, Cody Gakpo finally levelled the score in the 77th minute with a sharp finish that left Senne Lammens helpless.
But this time, United refused to crumble. Just moments later, their captain on the day, Harry Maguire, rose highest to head home Bruno Fernandes’ brilliant cross, restoring United’s lead and sending the away fans wild.
It was a proper captain’s goal from Maguire powerful, determined, and full of heart. From there, United dug deep to protect their advantage, with De Ligt leading the backline like a warrior.
Amorim’s plan works to perfection
Rúben Amorim’s tactics were spot on. His decision to start Lammens in goal paid off, as the young keeper handled the pressure well.
De Ligt’s role as a sweeper worked brilliantly, while Mbeumo’s pace caused endless trouble for Liverpool’s defence.
In the final minutes, substitutes Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Šeško added fresh legs, helping United see the game out. The win marks a huge step forward for Amorim, who finally sees his side finding rhythm and confidence.
After years of disappointment at Anfield, Manchester United finally found their moment. Goals from Mbeumo and Maguire sealed a famous win and gave Amorim the biggest result of his United career so far.
If United can build on this, the season could finally be turning around for the Red Devils and for the first time in a long while, it feels like the fight is back at Old Trafford.
