Manchester United coaches have made it clear that they see Benjamin Šeško as a major upgrade on Rasmus Højlund, even though the stats so far don’t fully show it.
The Slovenian striker joined United for around €85 million in the summer, a huge move that saw Højlund leave for Napoli on loan.
While the Danish forward has already found his feet in Italy, scoring four goals in six games, Šeško has managed only two goals in nine appearances for United.
Still, the coaching staff is said to be very happy with Šeško’s all-round game. They believe his awareness, pressing, and ability to link up play are already improving United’s attack.
Behind the scenes, staff have been full of praise for his ball-winning and passing, saying he brings more control to the team than Højlund ever did.
Why Amorim backed Šeško over Højlund
Manager Rúben Amorim is said to have pushed for Šeško’s signing because of his complete style. Amorim reportedly had concerns about Højlund’s off-the-ball movement and lack of composure in tight games.
Even though Højlund believed he could prove himself better in training, the manager decided a fresh start was needed.
Højlund had scored only ten goals in 52 games for United last season, and many inside the club felt he wasn’t ready to lead the line for a title-chasing side.

Šeško, on the other hand, came in with an impressive record from the Bundesliga, where he scored 21 goals last season and 18 the year before.
Amorim believes that once the 21-year-old settles into the Premier League pace, he will become a top-level striker.
Šeško still finding his feet at Old Trafford
Šeško hasn’t exploded yet in England. Adapting to the Premier League has been tricky, but there are signs that things are heading in the right direction.
In the recent clash against Liverpool, Šeško came off the bench and made a strong impact. Even though he didn’t score, his energy, movement, and link-up play helped United turn the game around.
Coaches were said to be impressed by how he pressed defenders and created space for teammates.
United fans have high hopes for the Slovenian, but patience will be key. The staff believes his time is coming soon, once he starts scoring regularly, confidence will grow, and the rest will follow.
For now, United’s message is simple: Benjamin Šeško is the future. The club sees him as the man to lead the attack for years, and despite the slow start, everyone at Carrington is backing him to deliver.
