Huge Boost for Man United as Carrick Set to Welcome Back £112m Duo Before Aston Villa Clash

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United could receive a big lift ahead of their next Premier League match as two important players are close to returning from injury.

Manager Michael Carrick will be hoping the good news arrives at the perfect moment as his side prepares for a massive clash with Aston Villa.

United have a free weekend after their early exit from the FA Cup, which gives the squad extra time to rest and prepare.

Their next test will come on March 15 when they host Villa in a huge match that could shape the race for the Premier League top four.

Both clubs are fighting hard for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season. With only nine games left in the campaign, every result now feels like a final.

Man United Looking to Bounce Back

Manchester United are currently sitting in third place in the league table. However, the race for Champions League football is extremely tight.

Villa are level on points with United, which makes the upcoming game even more important. A win could give either side a strong advantage heading into the final weeks of the season.

Carrick’s men will be desperate to bounce back after suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United last time out. That result slowed their momentum and allowed their rivals to close the gap.

The defeat also exposed some weaknesses in the squad, especially with several players currently unavailable due to injury. But things may soon change for the better.

Mason Mount Closing In On Comeback

One of the players close to returning is Mason Mount. The midfielder has missed the last six matches after picking up a small injury during training.

Mount joined United in a big-money move worth around £55 million and has been an important option for Carrick when fully fit.

His energy in midfield and ability to link up play could be a huge help for the team during the final stretch of the season.

Carrick recently confirmed that Mount is getting closer to returning to action. With more than a week before the Villa match, there is a strong chance the midfielder will be fully ready.

If Mount does return, it would give United more creativity and depth in the middle of the pitch. His presence could help the team control games better and create more chances for the attackers.

Lisandro Martinez Could Strengthen Defence

Another big boost may come in defence with the possible return of Lisandro Martínez.

The centre-back suffered a calf problem before the trip to Everton and had to sit out recent matches. At the time, reports suggested he could miss up to two weeks.

Thankfully for United, the injury was not serious. If Martinez recovers on time, he could be back in the starting line-up against Villa.

His return would be a major boost for the defence. Martinez is known for his aggressive style, strong tackling and leadership at the back.

If he comes back into the team, young defender Leny Yoro could move to the bench. That might also see Harry Maguire switch to the right centre-back role.

Injury Problems Still Affect United Squad

While the potential return of Mount and Martinez is positive news, United still have a few injury worries.

Defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu remain unavailable.

Dorgu is expected to return sometime in April after recovering from a hamstring injury. However, the situation around De Ligt is less clear, and the club has not yet confirmed when he will be back.

These absences have forced Carrick to rely on other defenders in recent weeks.

Huge Match Awaits at Old Trafford

The clash with Aston Villa is shaping up to be one of the most important matches of the season for Manchester United.

With Champions League qualification on the line, both teams know how much is at stake.

The return of players like Mount and Martinez could give United the boost they need to respond after their recent loss.

Carrick will be hoping his squad can recover quickly and produce a strong performance in front of their home fans.

If United can return to winning ways, it would put them in a strong position heading into the final run of games and keep their Champions League dream alive.

For the Red Devils, the timing of these possible injury returns could not be better.
