Fernandes Shines With 9/10 Masterclass as Two Other United Stars Steal the Show in Huge Palace Win

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United left it late but got the job done at Old Trafford as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 in a huge Premier League clash. It was not pretty at times. In fact, for long spells, it looked like it would be a bad day for the Reds.

But football can change fast, and it did.

Head coach Michael Carrick made one big call before kick-off. He brought in Benjamin Sesko to lead the line. It proved to be a smart move in the end.

Palace shocked the home fans early. After just four minutes, Maxence Lacroix rose high and found the net.

Old Trafford went quiet. United looked slow and lost in the first half. There was no rhythm. Passes went astray. The palace looked sharp and hungry.

But the game turned after the break.

Second Half Drama Changes Everything

The key moment came when Lacroix brought down Matheus Cunha inside the box. The referee had no choice. Red card. Palace down to ten men.

Up stepped Captain Bruno Fernandes. Calm as you like. He smashed the penalty home. 1-1. Game on.

From there, United looked like a different team. They moved the ball more quickly. They pushed Palace back.

Then came the winner. Fernandes whipped in a perfect cross and Sesko powered home a strong header. Old Trafford erupted.

Now, let’s break down how each player did on the day.

Senne Lammens: 7/10

Senne Lammens looked calm again between the sticks. He could not do much about the early goal. After that, he stayed focused. He made one big save to stop Ismaila Sarr and kept United in the match. Solid and steady.

Diogo Dalot: 5/10

Diogo Dalot had a tough day. His passing was not sharp. He did not offer much going forward. He tried to improve in the second half, but overall it was below his usual level.

Leny Yoro: 5/10

Leny Yoro struggled early on. He was caught out for the first goal and looked nervous. To be fair, he improved after Palace went down to ten men. Still, not his best performance.

Harry Maguire: 7/10

Harry Maguire was strong again. He won most of his duels and showed good leadership at the back. He limped off late in the game, which worried the fans. If he is injured, that could be a big blow.

Luke Shaw: 6/10

Luke Shaw started well but sadly had to go off early with an injury. Before that, he looked sharp and ready.

Casemiro: 6/10

Casemiro worked hard but did not fully control the midfield in the first half. The Palace had too much space early on. He improved later and nearly scored himself.

Kobbie Mainoo: 6/10

Kobbie Mainoo had a quiet game by his high standards. He struggled when Palace pressed hard. After the red card, he found more freedom and helped keep the ball moving.

Bruno Fernandes: 9/10

Bruno Fernandes was the difference. Simple as that. He scored the penalty with confidence. Then he delivered a world-class cross for the winner. He also created chances all game. This was a captain’s display.

Bryan Mbeumo: 6/10

Bryan Mbeumo worked hard but did not have much of an end product. He tried to stretch the defence but lacked that final spark.

Matheus Cunha: 7/10

Matheus Cunha was lively and brave. He won the penalty by forcing the defender into a mistake. He brings energy and fight to the attack.

Benjamin Sesko: 8/10

Benjamin Sesko took his chance. Quiet in the first half, yes. But strikers live for big moments. His header was powerful and well-timed. He looks full of confidence right now.

Substitutes Impact

Noussair Mazraoui did a decent job when he came on.
Amad Diallo added pace late on.
Joshua Zirkzee and Ayden Heaven did not play enough minutes to judge.

Big Win in the Top Four Race

This win moves Manchester United up to third place. That is huge. They showed fight. They showed belief. It was not perfect, but three points are what matter.

If they keep this spirit, they can finish strong this season.
