Breaking: Crystal Palace boss ready to quit as Man Utd target shock move for Amorim replacement

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United are in trouble once again and now the talk is about the manager.

Reports say the club is looking at Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner as a possible replacement for Ruben Amorim.

United had another low point this week as they went out of the Carabao Cup in the second round, losing to Grimsby Town on penalties.

For a big club like United, this was a huge embarrassment, and it has put more pressure on Amorim.

Amorim Future in Doubt

After the cup exit, Amorim made things worse by saying he would have talks with the club bosses during the international break.

This has made fans and media think his job is in serious danger.

INEOS, who run the football side at Old Trafford, are already preparing for a change if needed.

The Portuguese coach has not got United going this season.

Despite spending big money on new players, the Red Devils have struggled in the league and now have been knocked out of a cup too early.

Many supporters are losing patience and are calling for a new manager.

Glasner Seen as Main Option

According to reports, Oliver Glasner is the main name being spoken about in the Old Trafford corridors.

The Austrian coach has done a very good job at Crystal Palace since taking over in 2024.

He even gave the Eagles their first ever major trophy when they won the FA Cup last season.

Glasner has only 12 months left on his Palace contract, and there are questions about his long-term future there.

That makes him a realistic option for Man United. It is also understood that Glasner would love to take the United job if offered.

A Good Fit for United?

One reason United are looking closely at Glasner is his style of play. He uses a 3-4-3 system at Palace, which could suit the players United already have.

Since Amorim took charge, the club has spent more than £220m on new signings like Patrick Dorgu, Diego Leon, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

These players could easily slot into Glasner’s system without the club needing to spend even more money.

For INEOS, this would be a smart move, as they want results but also want to keep costs under control.

What Next for United?

For now, Amorim is still in charge, but his position looks weak.

If results do not improve quickly, Oliver Glasner could soon be walking into Old Trafford as the next Manchester United manager.

Fans are divided. Some want Amorim to be given more time, while others feel a big club like United cannot wait any longer.

The next few weeks could decide everything.
