Manchester United are getting ready for one of their biggest games of the season as they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday night.
Manager Rúben Amorim knows he will need his strongest team if he wants to end United’s long and painful record at Anfield.
United haven’t won there since 2016, when Wayne Rooney scored the winner. That’s almost ten years ago and fans are desperate to see it change.
But this time, Liverpool are struggling. They’ve lost three games in a row, and United will feel they have a real chance to strike while the Reds are down.
Amorim’s men just picked up a big win against Sunderland, and another victory here would give them back-to-back wins for the first time under the Portuguese boss.
Five Big Decisions for Amorim
The United manager has a few big choices to make before kick-off. Injuries to Lisandro Martínez and Noussair Mazraoui mean there will be some changes in defence. But with so many players in good form, it won’t be an easy team to pick.
First up is the goalkeeper. New signing Senne Lammens impressed everyone with his calm and confident debut.
He kept a clean sheet against Sunderland, and many fans say he looks like the real deal. Amorim is expected to stick with him between the posts.
In defence, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are likely to start in the back three. Maguire’s experience and leadership could be vital in such a heated atmosphere.
On the left, Luke Shaw will face his toughest challenge, stopping Mohamed Salah. Shaw will be eager to prove himself after some mixed performances this season.

United’s Midfield and Attack
In midfield, Amorim could turn to Manuel Ugarte, as Casemiro has only just returned from a long international trip to Japan.
Ugarte played well at Anfield last season, and his energy could be key again. Alongside him will be Bruno Fernandes, who remains undroppable as captain and creative leader.
Further forward, Diogo Dalot may play as left wing-back to help Shaw against Liverpool’s pacey wingers, while Bryan Mbeumo looks set to start on the right to target Liverpool’s defensive weaknesses.
In attack, Mason Mount has earned his place after scoring last time out. Amorim is said to be a big fan of his work rate and movement.
Up front, Benjamin Šeško is expected to lead the line again after scoring in his last two matches. The Slovenian striker has quickly become a fan favourite and will be desperate to continue his hot form against Liverpool.
Time to Make History
If Amorim’s side can win at Anfield, it would be a massive moment for both him and the team. It would show that United are finally moving in the right direction under their new manager.
Liverpool may be down, but they’re never easy to beat at home. Amorim knows his players will have to fight for every ball and stay sharp till the final whistle.
But with confidence growing and a hungry young squad, this could finally be the year Manchester United break their Anfield curse.
Kick-off: Sunday, 20:30 (UK Time) Anfield
