Manchester United are set to make a fresh move in the January transfer window as Ruben Amorim looks to fix his midfield problems once and for all.
After missing out on key summer targets, the Red Devils are now turning their eyes back to Morten Hjulmand, the Danish midfielder currently shining at Sporting CP.
Reports say United are ready to make a big bid to bring him to Old Trafford.
United failed to land summer target
United spent most of the summer chasing Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, but the deal never happened. The club saw him as the perfect fit for Amorim’s fast and powerful midfield system, but Brighton refused to sell their young star.
With no other deal ready to go, United ended the window without a new midfielder, leaving fans frustrated.
It was clear the team needed more strength in the middle of the pitch, especially after some poor early-season performances.
Now, Amorim seems determined not to repeat that mistake again.
Hjulmand and Amorim reunion on the cards
Morten Hjulmand is well known to Amorim, the Portuguese boss coached him at Sporting and signed him from Lecce in 2023.
The pair worked closely together, and Hjulmand quickly became one of the key men in Amorim’s midfield.
Known for his calm passing, smart positioning, and leadership on the pitch, the Denmark international could bring exactly what United are missing right now. control and confidence in possession.
Reports suggest that Amorim still admires Hjulmand’s strong mentality and wants him to lead United’s midfield rebuild.
United ready to make €60m bid
According to Spanish reports, United are ready to offer around €60 million for the 26-year-old in January. Sporting, however, are expected to fight hard to keep their player, as his contract has a release clause of €80 million.
Even so, United believe their manager’s past connection with Hjulmand could help make the move possible. It’s also said that the player himself is open to a Premier League switch if the right offer comes in.
Juventus and Tottenham are also watching him closely, but United’s strong interest and Amorim’s influence could make them favourites in this race.
A key move for Amorim’s project
If United can secure this deal, it might be one of their most important signings under Ruben Amorim. The club desperately needs balance and energy in midfield, and Hjulmand fits that role perfectly.
Fans are hoping this time United act quickly because missing out again could cost them dearly in their push for a top-four finish.
