Manchester United are now looking closely at Juventus defender Gleison Bremer as they search for answers to their shaky backline.
The 28-year-old Brazilian has been one of Juve’s best players this season, and his strong return from injury has caught the eye of big clubs across Europe.
Bremer moved from Torino to Juventus back in 2022. Since then, he has grown into a key part of their defence. Last season he had a tough time after suffering a serious ACL injury against RB Leipzig in October, which kept him out for months.
But this season under boss Igor Tudor, he has returned fit and strong, already scoring two goals in his first four Serie A matches. That shows he is not only solid at the back, but also a danger in the other box.
United have been leaking goals again this season under Ruben Amorim. For that reason, the club are said to be “seriously evaluating” whether to make a move for Bremer as soon as January.
Real Madrid Give Up Chase
Spanish giants Real Madrid were also keen on Bremer. Their top scout, Juni Calafat, is a huge admirer of the player.
But Madrid are not ready to pay the release clause, which is thought to be around €60 million. Reports from Spain now say Madrid have already given up on the chase.
That opens the door for Premier League clubs. United are not the only ones interested both Arsenal and Chelsea are also looking at Bremer as an option.
All three clubs are said to be ready to meet Juventus’ asking price if the deal goes ahead.
Questions Over Age And Price
Even though Bremer looks like the type of strong defender United need, there are still questions. At 28, he is not very old, but he is also not a young prospect.
Spending around €60m on a player near his 30s is a big decision, especially for Ineos, who now control United’s football direction.
The club also has young defenders coming through. Seventeen-year-old Jayden Ngwashi is highly rated inside Old Trafford, with some coaches believing he has the highest ceiling of all the youth defenders.
Ayden Heaven has already played minutes under Amorim as well. That makes it less certain whether United will splash such big money on Bremer.
What Happens Next?
For now, Bremer continues to play well for Juventus, and his name will stay high on the transfer list for Premier League clubs. United fans will hope their club takes action, as the defence has been a weak point for too long.
Whether it is Bremer or one of their academy gems, the Red Devils badly need stability at the back if they want to climb the table.
