Man Utd Pre-Season Wake-Up Call: Leeds Hold Reds in Goalless Battle

by Alex Matthews

Manchester United’s first pre-season game did not start the way fans were hoping for.

Playing against Leeds United in Stockholm at the Strawberry Arena, United looked slow and out of ideas during the first 45 minutes.

Both teams ended the half goalless, with the game showing little excitement.

This was the first chance to see new manager Ruben Amorim’s style in action after two weeks of training.

But there was no spark in United’s play, leaving fans wanting more from their side, especially with Leeds returning to the Premier League this season.

Slow and Uninspiring Start

United tried to build attacks from the back but struggled to create clear chances.

Altay Bayindir had very little to do in goal, as both teams failed to test the keepers.

However, Bayindir’s passing was poor, which could be a concern moving forward.

At the back, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt looked solid.

De Ligt, in particular, organised the defence well and kept Leeds’ attackers quiet.

Luke Shaw, playing in a back-three role, supported new signing Diego Leon, who showed energy and confidence for an 18-year-old.

Cunha Shines While Casemiro Struggles

Matheus Cunha looked like the brightest spark for United.

The forward was always looking to cause problems and looked dangerous when on the ball.

He could become a key player for United this season if he continues with such energy.

On the other hand, Casemiro had a day to forget. He looked slow and gave away fouls, while his passing and crossing were poor.

It was clear he needs more time to get match fit.

Bruno Fernandes played deeper in midfield and looked creative, as usual.

He found space and created a few good chances, but there was no one to finish them.

What’s Next for United?

United fans will expect a much better performance in the second half and in the upcoming games.

The team needs to improve their speed, sharpness, and finishing if they want to have a strong start to the Premier League season.

Players like Cunha and Amad showed positive signs, but others like Casemiro must step up.

With tough games ahead, Amorim will have to work on his attack and midfield balance.

This pre-season match might not have been exciting, but it gives the manager a clear idea of what needs fixing before the big games begin.
