Manchester United have taken a big step forward in their chase for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 22-year-old Slovenian forward is now one of the top names on United’s summer shopping list as they search for a new number nine.
Man United Need a New Striker Badly
After a very poor season in the Premier League, the Red Devils are trying to rebuild their squad.
They’ve already brought in two attacking midfielders Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo but now the big focus is on signing a proper striker.
United first tried to sign young England striker Liam Delap, but he chose to join Chelsea instead.
Then they went after Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike, but they also turned United down and moved to Arsenal and Liverpool.
Now, the two main strikers United are looking at are Sesko and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
Sesko the Better Fit for United
Ollie Watkins is a great striker with loads of experience in the Premier League, but he turns 30 this year and would cost a lot more than £50 million plus big wages.
That doesn’t really fit the new plan United’s owners, INEOS, are trying to follow.
Since taking over last year, INEOS have focused on signing young players with lower wages but high potential.
That’s why Sesko, who is only 22, seems like a perfect match for them even if he costs around £70 million.
United’s new recruitment boss, Christopher Vivell, is said to be leading the talks.
He knows Sesko well from his time working at the Red Bull clubs, so that could help get the deal done.
Talks with Leipzig Already Started
Romano has reported that Manchester United have already spoken to RB Leipzig directly in the past couple of days.
These talks were done face-to-face, which shows United are very serious.
There’s a special agreement between Sesko, his agent, and Leipzig, if Sesko tells the club he wants to leave, the club will let him go for around €70 to 80 million, with another €5 to10 million in add-ons.
This shows that Sesko might have already told Leipzig he wants to join United.
That’s good news for the Red Devils, but they’ll still need to sell some players to raise the money.
Players like Garnacho, Antony, or Sancho could be sold this summer to help fund the deal.
Benjamin Sesko looks like the top striker target for Manchester United right now. With talks already happening and Sesko interested in the move, fans will be hopeful that this deal can get done soon.
A new young number nine is just what United need to turn things around.
