Manchester United are turning up the heat in their chase for Como midfielder Nico Paz.
The 20-year-old Argentina international has been one of the brightest young stars in Serie A since moving from Real Madrid to newly-promoted Como last summer.
Paz had an outstanding first season in Italy’s top league, scoring six goals and providing nine assists in 35 matches.
His skill, vision, and ability to play in different attacking roles have made him one of the most exciting names in European football right now.
United Ready to Pay Big
Reports in Spain say United are getting ready to make a huge €70 million offer for Paz.
This comes after Tottenham Hotspur had a €40m bid turned down, and with Chelsea also keeping an eye on the situation.
While Chelsea and Spurs have shown interest, United seem the most serious about meeting Como’s asking price.
Sources say the Red Devils are determined to add more creativity to their team before the transfer window shuts.
United have already spent big this summer, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.
Even so, they still have money left to go after another big signing.
Does Amorim Really Need Paz?
While there’s no doubt Paz is a top talent, some believe he might not be the type of player United actually need right now.
Manager Ruben Amorim already has strong attacking midfield options, players who can operate just behind the striker.
What United arguably need more is a defensive-minded midfielder, someone who can protect the backline and win the ball back in key areas.
Paz is brilliant at keeping possession and making clever passes between the lines, but he’s not as physical or strong in defensive duties.
Real Madrid Watching from Afar
It’s also worth noting that Real Madrid reportedly have a buy-back clause for Paz.
However, at the moment, Xabi Alonso and the Madrid hierarchy are focused on other priorities, leaving the door open for United to swoop in.
If Manchester United do land Nico Paz, they’ll be getting one of the brightest young players in European football, a creative, skillful midfielder with a big future.
But questions remain over whether he’s exactly what the team needs to close the gap on their rivals this season.
Either way, this could be one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer.
