Newcastle United are watching Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo very closely ahead of the January transfer window.
Reports say the Magpies are big fans of the young star and could make a move if his situation doesn’t change soon.
Mainoo, 21, came through United’s academy and is seen as one of the brightest English talents.
But this season under Ruben Amorim he has struggled for game time. He has started only once so far, in the penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby Town in the cup.
Even in the Manchester derby against City, Mainoo had to wait on the bench before coming on late in the game.
The player already asked to leave before the summer transfer deadline because he wanted more regular football.
United rejected the request, but the frustration is still there as minutes remain limited.

Newcastle Could Make Big January Move
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side had a busy summer window, adding players like Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey, Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.
They are building a squad for the Champions League and now see Mainoo as another important target.
According to reports, Howe is a huge admirer of the midfielder. He believes Mainoo could bring energy and control to the middle of the park at St James’ Park.
If United keep leaving him on the bench, Newcastle may be ready to test the waters with a formal offer in January.
United value Mainoo around £60m, and his current contract runs until 2027. The club do not want to sell him.
But with the World Cup coming next summer, Mainoo knows he must be playing more if he wants to stay in the England squad. That pressure could push him to demand a move.
Fans and Teammates Perplexed
The lack of minutes for Mainoo is confusing not just for fans but also for some of his teammates.
Reports claim that several players inside the United dressing room are surprised at how little Amorim trusts the youngster.
Mainoo has shown glimpses of his quality whenever he plays. Against City, even in limited time, he looked calm and hungry.
Many believe he deserves to start more often.
For now, it looks like January could be a big month. If Amorim continues to overlook him, Newcastle will be waiting with open arms.
The ball is in United’s court, keep one of their best young stars happy, or risk losing him to a growing rival.
