Amorim Drops Bombshell as £120k-a-Week Man Utd Star Told to Pack Bags

by Alex Matthews

It was not the craziest deadline day at Old Trafford, but manager Ruben Amorim still made one big call.

Manchester United signed young Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for around £18m.

The move came because both of United’s main goalkeepers, Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana, have been struggling badly this season.

Bayindir had a poor start, making a big error against Arsenal on the opening day.

That mistake gave the Gunners the winning goal, and former captain Roy Keane was furious. He called it “schoolboy stuff” and said United were “weak and soft” in goal.

But Bayindir is not the only problem. Onana also had a nightmare, gifting a goal in the Carabao Cup defeat against Grimsby Town.

That mistake seems to have been the final straw for Amorim.

Amorim Gives Onana Green Light to Go

According to reports, Amorim has now told Andre Onana he is free to leave United.

The keeper, who earns £120k-a-week, is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League, where the transfer window is still open until September 23.

Saudi clubs have already opened talks, and United are ready to listen to offers.

Other leagues like Turkey are also still open, so there could be more options.

Amorim is clear: he will not stand in Onana’s way if a good offer comes.

This is a shock for many fans, as Onana only joined last year from Inter Milan with a big reputation.

He even reached the Champions League final in 2023. But his form at Old Trafford has been poor, and mistakes have cost United badly.

Lammens Brings New Hope

United’s new man, Senne Lammens, is only 23 but already has an impressive record.

At Royal Antwerp he was even voted Player of the Season. His numbers last year were far better than Onana’s.

  • Lammens conceded 1.11 goals per 90, compared to Onana’s 1.30.

  • His save percentage was 79.9%, compared to Onana’s 70.2%.

  • Even on penalties, Lammens saved 80%, while Onana managed just 14.3%.

  • Lammens also stopped far more crosses into the box.

These stats show why Amorim moved quickly to bring him in. While Lammens is untested in the Premier League, many feel he could be a major upgrade.

Time for a Fresh Start

Onana came with big expectations, but his time at United has been full of errors and criticism.

The arrival of Lammens shows Amorim is not willing to wait any longer. For United, selling Onana to Saudi Arabia would free up wages and allow them to move forward.

It may be a risk, but fans are starting to believe Lammens could be the answer between the posts.

For Onana, though, it looks like the end of the road at Old Trafford.
